Honestly, these are the worst tropes in social media, because of the bad effect they have on people. "Oh no, other people like the thing I like. I can't be basic, so I have to find something else to 'like' so people will consider me an original again!"
Is it an aversion to looking in the mirror? I also grew up without many friends that share my interests, which I used to think was just a quirk but now realize that I would scram from groups that made me feel too legible.
And now, as I’m deliberately trying to find and socialize with people who share my interests, I feel a very strong resistance coming from somewhere I can’t quite place.
